Internationale Schule in Mondorf

Auf Einladung von Frau Katy Seward, Lehrerin für Naturwissenschaften und Weltentdeckung, besuchten unser Präsident Roland Welter und Blindenführhund „Lou“ am Montag, den 13. März  in der Internationalen Schule (EIMLB) in Mondorf die Klasse P4EN.
Nachdem die Schüler sich mit dem menschlichen Auge und damit zusammenhängenden Themen beschäftigt hatten luden Sie einen Vertreter unseres Vereins ein um vor der Klasse über Blindheit und Blindenführhunde zu sprechen.
Frau Katy Seward ist der festen Überzeugung, dass Erfahrungen aus erster Hand fesselnder und einprägsamer sind und zu einem besseren Lernerfolg führen. Das Klassenzimmer wurde unsere Bedürfnissen entsprechend vorbereitet. Roland Welter hat seine Enkelin die in der Klasse P4EN. Schülerin ist gebeten ihre Eindrücke zu beschreiben. Hier ist ihr Bericht.

A special School Day !

On Monday, the 13th of March, we had a very unlikely visitor that came in this school.
My Grandfather, Roland Welter, went in the E.I.M.L.B. to give a spectacular speech on blindness and guide dogs.
With the help of his guide dog, Lou, he explained that blindness can be genetical and how you can get a guide dog. The speech he gave was both inspiring and interesting, but more importantly, it helped us understand blindness better.
He told us that he was the president of the Guide dog Association and showed us a comic he made; it was called Peggy and Patch. The outstanding comic was descriptive, funny and surprising.
Next, he introduced braille. He explained how it was invented and why it was so crucial to blins people.
Roland gave out a school book from his child hood, with the combinations of braille and a story printed in it.
Finally, he took of Lou’s harness and let him play with us. It was fun giving Lou cuddles and petting him.
It really was a special School Day !
